Bitter cold air remains in place Thursday morning with teens and twenties across the Treasure Valley. A new record low has been recorded at the Boise Airport of just 14 degrees which breaks the previous record of 15 degrees from 1948. Subzero temperatures have been felt in the mountain valleys but no new records have been set.

Cold air will remain in place Thursday afternoon with northerly flow aloft. This means that our daytime highs will struggle to reach the low 40's this afternoon, roughly 15 degrees colder than normal. Skies will remain clear and winds will be light on Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to quickly rebound through the weekend with high pressure moving in. Temperatures should warm up to near average highs by Friday afternoon, above normal highs on Saturday with low 60's expected in the Treasure Valley. Southwest flow will be in place ahead of another round of active weather heading into next week.

The first trough of low pressure is expected to move through the area on Sunday bringing valley rain and mountain snow showers. Another system is expected late Monday into Tuesday and will likely bring additional valley rain and mountain snow. Snow levels will likely fluctuate between 5,000-6,500 feet, either way, the higher mountain ranges should receive much-needed snowfall.
